Dr. Keith Poulsen, Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Lab. This talk will focus on two common bacterial infections that are frequently considered “zoonotic pathogens.” Zoonosis occurs when a human is infected with a bacterium or virus from an animal, typically through direct contact or through consuming raw dairy products or contaminated food products such as meat and vegetables. We’ll review an active problem with salmonellosis in Wisconsin and why listeriosis cases continue to be a problem.
