Covid 19 has been one of the biggest crises that the world has faced. This is when the state and all its institutions have to demonstrate great leadership and ensure that the society suffers minimal damage caused by the crisis. How did the institutions in India– the state, the judiciary, the civil services – perform? We are just a few months into the crisis and it is uncertain how long it will last and what damage it will do to the society. At this time, it is important to assess how our institutions have performed and what could be done, going forward. Mr Dushyant Dave, for all that he has done over years, is best suited to make this assessment. This he will do in this Talk.

Mr. DUSHYANT DAVE
Mr Dushyant Dave is one of the finest, bravest and most outspoken advocates in India. He is Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court, and the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association. In his career spread over last four decades he has fought regularly and vigorously to bring accountability in public administration and get justice to suffering citizens in cases involving violations of fundamental and human rights.

He was a Member of the National Legal Services Authority, the Highest Statutory Body responsible for Legal Aid in India from 2003 to 2008. He has been a leading figure in the field of International Commercial Arbitration, having been Member of the Court of London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Member of the Board of Directors of American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Governing Council Member of the Member of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) and the Founder Member of Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA), a non-profit organization based in Geneva. His strong and independent views expressed publicly over television debates on issues affecting accountability in public life and availability or otherwise of justice to citizens in the field of human rights protection have made him a voice of the people.
