“Careers in Global Development” is a monthly series featuring U.S. senior-level, multilateral and NGO officials who have worked in the field of development for at least twenty years. The series is aimed at young professionals who are interested in working in development and will include a one-hour dialogue on both the specific expertise of the speaker, as well as the career path and influences along the way. It will focus on specific areas of interest, including the role of humanitarian assistance in development and U.S. foreign policy; development as a tool to counter violent extremism; and sectoral issues such as food security, health, and education.

This specific session features Frederick Ehrenreich and Jennifer Mills. Mr. Ehrenreich is an analyst and division chief in the US State Department's Office of Analysis for Africa, part of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. He started at INR/AF in 1987, amid the twilight of Apartheid, inspiring his PhD dissertation and beginnings at State in 1990. Throughout his career, he has focused on East and Central Africa, particularly in the Great Lakes region. In 2007, he was detailed to serve the Deputy National Intelligence Officer for Africa on the National Intelligence Council. Prior to State, he worked with American University, the US Embassy in Guinea, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He holds a PhD from SAIS, a Masters from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley.

Jennifer Mills joined the State Department's Office of Analysis for Africa as an analyst in October 2016. She began her career in 2014 as a Presidential Management Fellow in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor covering Sub-Saharan Africa. She has experience operating in embassies across the region and has lived for over six years in Africa. Jennifer holds a Masters in Peace and Justice Studies from the University of San Diego and a Bachelor of Arts from Arizona State University.
