The future of Snyder's Rebel Moon is naturally dependent on how well it performs for Netflix, but in attempting to build it as a potential IP, at least there's a solid foundation underneath it. While on the surface Rebel Moon - which sees Sofia Boutella's Kora lead a band of warriors against an oppressive government - sounds like a good premise for a Star Wars spinoff, in truth, Snyder wouldn't have been a great fit for the property.

Snyder didn't want anything to do with established characters or elements from Star Wars and wanted to make an R-rated film. While certain Star Wars adventures have been more violent and intense - namely Revenge of the Sith - than others, it is fundamentally designed for audiences of all ages. Rebel Moon will have both PG-13 and R-rated versions, but the latter will be closer to Snyder's vision. Snyder's creative freedom likely would have been curtailed if he'd been made to work within the confines of a Star Wars movie too.
