John Paul Sánchez has worked extensively to promote diversity and inclusion in the medical and academic medicine workforces. He is Co-Founder/President of BNGAP Inc. He is Executive Director of the Latino Medical Student Association Inc., the largest Latino medical student association in the country with 140+ chapters at allopathic and osteopathic medical schools across the country. Since joining the Health Sciences Center at UNM, he has been selected for numerous leadership positions including as Executive Associate Vice President for DEI, whereby he supports HSC entities in planning, organizing, and aligning DEI activities. His upcoming book, titled The Health Professions and Academia: A Guide to Healthcare Leadership Careers, aims to inspire college/post-bacc to become faculty/senior administrators of health-related graduate schools. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed his residency training at Jacobi/Montefiore, and is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. He completed a MPH at the Yale School of Public Health. He is of Puerto Rican ancestry, gay-identified and was raised in the Bronx, NY.

Lindsay Smart, Ph.D. is an Associate Vice Chancellor for Leadership and Faculty Equity & Inclusion in the UNM HSC Office for Diversity Equity, and Inclusion, and also an Associate Professor and Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the UNM School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is also the Training Director for the American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Clinical Psychology Internship Training Program at UNM. Currently, Dr. Smart is involved in initiatives that contribute to the promotion of diversity among faculty, students, and staff within the UNM Health Sciences Center.

Veronica Plaza, MD MPH, is a Director in Office for Diversity Equity and Inclusion at the UNM School of Medicine and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and College Population Health. She also serves as faculty at the Spanish Department at UNM College of Art and Science UNM. She developed and coordinated the minor and major in Medical Spanish for pre-health students. Currently, Dr. Plaza is leading the Language Equity Initiatives, focusing on Medical Spanish education, assessment, and certification for faculty, students, and staff within the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion in School of Medicine.
