As a foreign correspondent, Michelle Shephard was reporting in Mogadishu when she met a young refugee who said he lost his hand and foot for refusing to join a local militant (avoiding the word "terrorist" for social algorithm reasons) group. She brought his story to the world, sparking a movement to bring him to safety. Ten years later, while Michelle was developing a documentary about his story, he confessed that he had lied.
