'Top of the wolrd'는 카펜터스가 1973년 발표한 곡으로 빌보드차트 1위에 오르면서 최고의 인기를 누린 곡이죠. 밝고 경쾌한 곡조와 친근한 멜로디로 오랫동안 사랑받는 팝의 명곡입니다. 지금도 많은 나라에서 드라마와 영화의 배경음악, 그리고 각종 CF에도 종종 등장하지요. Top of the wolrd 란 문자 그대로 세상의 꼭대기에 오른 주인공이란 의미이고, 가사내용은 모든 것이 아름답고 행복함이 가득하다는 뜻이죠. 그러나 동생 카렌 카펜터는 애석하게도 1983년 32세의 젊은 나이로 세상을 떠났죠.
