Ukraine says Russian forces have launched an attack near the country's second city of Kharkiv.

It is unclear whether Russia is shaping up to try and take the city, or using the operation for reconnaissance.

Sky News military analyst Sean Bell said Russia may have been trying to pull Ukrainian troops away from other locations on the front line.

Ukraine said it had pushed Russian forces back by around 1km.
