Blurring the Line Between Science & Art: How Theater Transforms Medicine | Michelle Lyman | TEDxUSF |
![]() |
There are many different ways to teach valuable lessons. We should not limit ourselves to teaching styles or dampen creative outlets because of our field of study. There is room for both science and art in medicine, and being open to both makes better healthcare providers. Michelle is a medical student at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, where she is also pursuing her Masters in Public Health. Years before attending medical school, she was an avid actress in her local community theatre. Those hours on and behind the stage became useful in medical school when she worked with the USF Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation. She is applying for a Family Medicine residency this coming year and is passionate about using her education to improve care for vulnerable and underserved populations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
