Machiavelli writes the lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves.

One must be a fox to recognize the traps and a lion to frighten the wolves.

That's just good life advice. So is this when he writes the first method for estimating the intelligence of a ruler is to look at the men he has around him. You'd better surround yourself with good men to live a good life.

It's a book that deals with human nature in acquiring power and dealing with people on a daily, daily basis.
