Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced on Monday that an 11th person had died as a result of the mass shooting that occurred Saturday, after one of those wounded in the shooting succumbed to their injuries. He also announced the names of three of the victims.
He went on to detail the "items of interest" that have been recovered from the home of the suspect in the shooting. He said among the items recovered was a rifle, electronic devices, and "items that lead us to believe the suspect was manufacturing homemade firearm suppressors." He also said authorities recovered 42 shell cases from the shooting scene and a large-capacity magazine. Luna also extended his thanks to the man who he said disarmed the suspect in the Monterey Park shooting at a dance club in Alhambra, a neighbouring city. Luna said Brandon Tsay was a "hero" for his actions. Tsay was working at the family business when the shooter entered and was able to wrestle the weapon away from the shooter before he could get a shot off. Police say the suspect is 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, and that several pieces of evidence linking Tran to the shootings in Monterey Park were found inside a white van involved in a standoff with authorities in Torrance, Calif. Authorities say a handgun was also found inside the van and there are no outstanding suspects in the mass shootings. The motive is still unknown at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. The tragedy marked the fifth mass killing in the U.S. since the start of the year. It is also the deadliest since May 24, 2022, when 21 people were killed in a school in Uvalde, Texas, according to The Associated Press/USA Today database on mass killings in the U.S. For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/9429134/california-shootings-investigation-continues/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #shooting #california |
