|
15 year old Austin McCoy shares his journey from idea, to workbench, to kitchen counter prototype, and even to India as he developed his award-winning, disease-detecting medical device. Austin is driven by a desire to help all children stricken by disease. His ground-breaking device is designed to work in even the poorest, most remote areas on Earth.
Austin McCoy is 15 years old and a sophomore at Century High School in Rochester, Minnesota. He started working on genetics projects in 5th grade through Mayo Clinic's InSciEd Out Educational Outreach program. Since age 12, Austin has combined his interest in programming, love of math, and endless tinkering to develop a diagnostic medical device that won him the First Place Technology Award at the Broadcom MASTERS National Science Fair. Austin dreams of attending M.I.T. to pursue a career in medicine and engineering. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
