The Fall of the Inca Empire |
|
Before the fall of the Inca Empire, caused by the arrival of the Spanish, the Inca Empire was the largest empire in the world spreading across ancient Ecuador, Peru, Northern Chile, Bolivia, upland Argentina, and southern Colombia. Their empire stretched over five thousand five hundred kilometres with highways and roads and storehouses connecting the cities and towns. The Inca called their empire Tawantinsuyo which means 'Land of the Four Quarters' or 'The Four Parts Together'.
Francisco Pizarro and his partner Diego de Almagro were in their mid-50s and had been treasure hunters since the discovery of the Aztecs in Mexico a decade earlier. On Friday, November fifteenth the Spaniards headed to the Inca town of Cajamarca. Pizarro sent word that he wanted to meet the ruler of the empire, and Atahualpa agreed but made him wait until the following day. The formal first meeting between Atahualpa and Pizarro consisted of a few speeches and a drink, and that's pretty much it. The very next day though, Pizarro and his men ambushed Atahualpa as he entered the main square. — SUPPORT US VIA OUR PATREON— https://www.patreon.com/join/whencyclopedia — BUY OUR MERCH — https://www.worldhistory.store/ — CHAPTERS — 0:00 Introduction 0:57 A Short Introduction to the Incas 3:09 Francisco Pizarro and the Spanish Conquistadores 5:36 The Fall of Cuzco and the Inca Empire 8:01 Outro — WANT TO KNOW MORE? — Pizarro & the Fall of the Inca Empire https://www.worldhistory.org/article/915/pizarro--the-fall-of-the-inca-empire/ Inca Civilization https://www.worldhistory.org/Inca_Civilization/ The Siege of Cusco in 1536 - 7 https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2020/the-siege-of-cusco-in-1536-7/ The Inca Road System https://www.worldhistory.org/article/757/the-inca-road-system/ Ten Facts You Need to Know About the Inca https://www.worldhistory.org/article/757/the-inca-road-system/ — WATCH NEXT — The Rise and Fall of the Inca Empire: A Short History https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRUlGUVxARo History of the Aztec Civilization, a Mesoamerican Empire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH_8Q5rs8c0 Ancient Flood Legends and Stories from Around the World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd6I1T9efNo The Maya Civilization, Culture, Calendar and History: an Introduction to a Mesoamerican Civilization https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fL3NgWAhR8 — ATTRIBUTIONS — You can find all attribution and credits for images, animations, graphics and music here - https://worldhistory.typehut.com/the-fall-of-the-inca-empire-images-and-attributions-10849 The music used in this recording is the intellectual copyright of Michael Levy, a prolific composer for the recreated lyres of antiquity, and used with the creator's permission.
