Neerja Malik, a cancer survivor, set up a support group to help patients combat cancer with grit. With two surgeries for breast cancer in 1998 and 2004 behind her, Neerja is a double survivor as her daughter puts it. She has been through the painful process of diagnosis, treatment, surgery, the recovery, the depression and the ups and downs of the cruise that is far from pleasant. Neerja wears many hats: housewife, mother, partner in the family's leather business and head of the Apollo Cancer Support Group. She is the co- founder of Sahaayika, an aid to face cancer. People at Sahaayika help cancer patients & their family members face the disease & recover from it.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
