Socratic Phillosophy: Importance of asking right questions |
|
One Day, A young man came to Socrates and asked him,
How can I become wise like you? Socrates replied, The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. The young man was confused by Socrates' answer, but he was intrigued. Socrates then invited him to walk with him through the city, and as they walked, Socrates asked him questions about life, morality, and ethics. He never gave the young man answers but instead encouraged him to think for himself and find his own truth. After walking and talking for several hours, the young man realized that he had learned more from Socrates' questions than he ever had from anyone else's answers. He thanked Socrates for his wisdom and promised to continue learning and questioning everything around him. Years later, the young man became a respected philosopher in his own right, thanks to the lessons he learned from Socrates.. From this story, we can learn that wisdom comes not from having all the answers, but from asking the right questions and constantly seeking knowledge.
