Ecolabels are known as an effective marketing tool to communicate environmental friendliness of products to consumers and are a key tool to support implementation of green public procurement in many developed and developing countries worldwide. Many governments and industry groups recognize that ecolabelling could provide sought-after economic incentives for better long-term stewardship and availability of natural resources important for national economic welfare.
The webinar, featured on the 7th of August 2019, explores the importance of ecolabels within green public procurement in order to showcase the role that ecolabels can play in procurement policy. The aim is to build capacity and knowledge on type 1 ecolabels and ensure they are a prominent component of green public procurement. Watch the webinar with participation of the Brazilian government, about the importance of using Ecolabel Type 1 as a technical requirement in green public procurement (GPP). This activity is part of the Consumer Information Programme's working group on Type 1 ecolabels.
