Being Queer: Rights, Violence and Pride | Sofia (Sam) Somwaiya | TEDxSchuleSchlossSalem |
|
What is queer Pride, exactly, and what purpose does it serve to the queer community in the modern day? Does it serve any purpose, beyond being a show of glitz, glam, and glory? What's the point in it, if queer people "have all their rights", according to some? Sam Somwaiya takes a brief look at the subject of the necessity of queer Pride, in regard to both social and personal life - what is Pride to the community, and what is Pride to the person? Somwaiya draws both from personal experiences and the experiences of friends, in a discussion of how while LGBTQ+ rights have advanced far beyond what they were even a decade ago, there is still room to progress, and a need for Pride both in the queer community and the wider world. Sofia Somwaiya is a student at Schule Schloss Salem. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
