Functional Lucid Dreaming: How to Have and Enjoy Lucid Dreams

video thumbnail
This is a video I made for the Psychology 101 class my girlfriend is TAing at BU. They learned about Stephen LaBerge's research on the more scientific side of things, and I wanted to fill in the practical side. I figured I'd put it on youtube in case anyone else was interested.

Some things I didn't mention: the reason WILDs are best attempted late in the sleep cycle or in the afternoon is because REM periods become longer at these times and it's believed that WILDs involve slipping directly from waking to REM states. Also, if you feel yourself starting to 'fuzz out' or wake up, some people recommend spinning around as fast as you can with your eyes closed. This sometimes puts you into a new dream without waking up. Lastly, do a reality check every time you wake up from a lucid dream. It's very common to experience a 'false awakening' and you'll kick yourself when you wake up for the second time after writing in your dream journal!
