Tropical depression #2 formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, right on cue as June 1 marked the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

National Hurricane Center's Friday 5 a.m. advisory shows the storm has sustained winds of 35 mph gusting to 45 mph. The system was located about 240 west of Tampa Bay, Florida.
