Michael Addisu Haile is the CEO and Lead Promoter of Nisir Micro-finance Institution at 31 years of age. Nisir Micro-finance is the first of its kind in the Ethiopian financial sector. Through his micro-finance institution, Haile has a vision to contribute to one of the main constraints for young and small-scale entrepreneurs, access to finance in Ethiopia. He has mobilized more than 200 shareholders, including flagship institutional investors, with a subscribed capital of roughly 14 million ETB and a paid-up capital of 7.6 million ETB, which is four times the minimum legal requirement for license from Central Bank of Ethiopia. Haile is a chartered financial analyst who holds an MA in Finance and Accounting. He was one of 12 Ethiopian Mandela Washington Fellows in 2014, allowing him to study Business & Entrepreneurship for six weeks at the Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. He is also one of 25 grant winners who received $25,000 to expand their business. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) |
