Unlocking Carbon Markets with Fire Resilient Forests | Neil Hunt | TEDxBoston |
|
Talk 1: Global forests sequester about twice as much carbon as we have emitted since the dawn of the industrial age. But today, forest fire and clearance is a net emitter of CO2. The science of restoring forest health is clear, but the incentives to preserve are lower than the incentives to let it burn or clear it for agriculture. If we reliably priced carbon emissions at 10% of the value of the energy generated, we could reverse that and sequester a large fraction of our current emissions.
