Russia and Ukraine have given conflicting accounts of the situation in Bakhmut, with Kyiv claiming its forces still controlled part of the besieged eastern city.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has congratulated the Wagner mercenary force and Russian troops for "liberating" the city.
