Top geologists have warned that a powerful earthquake could hit Delhi in the near future. The warning comes after Delhi-NCR experienced 10 low to moderate intensity tremors in a span of one and a half months. Delhi falls under seismic zone-4 and is prone to tremors. A 4.6 earthquake originating in Haryana's Rohtak, jolted the national capital on May 29. Professor Chandan Ghose of IIT-Jammu, who is an earthquake engineering expert told news agency IANS that if the intensity of the earthquake had been 6.0 it would have had a devastating effect on Delhi. He added that many buildings would be razed to the ground as builders and contractors do not follow guidelines set for quake-resistant construction.
