Avoid crashing! | How to bail safely - How to dismount your bike in technical downhill terrain!

video thumbnail
Learn How to Bail Safely and How to Dismount Safely in Downhill Terrain - Because this is one of the most common errors I see mountain bikers perform, which often causes severe annd avoidable crashes!
⚠️ NOTE: The PLACE USED in this video is just EXEMPLARY!! Obviously right here - you would ideally dismount before or after. HOWEVER - imagine the place where I dismount to be the EASIEST spot in a trail you are riding.
Then, already the steepness shown here IS dangerous, IF a dismount to the rear is not automatized!!

Generally: this technique is a LIFE SAVER in technical and blocked downhill terrain, such as the trails you see me ride in this video: https://youtu.be/wKcPIumqerI

In my eyes, the technique taught in this video shown has 2 main uses:
1. When you start expanding your level and start EXPERIMENTING with trails, you WILL ride into a section which may intimidate you in the beginning- just because you’ve never ridden this exact “combination of demands”. But THEORETICALLY, you know you have practiced all the elements so you should be able to ride it. Theoretically!
Now - if you don’t have a “sheet anchor” or if you haven’t practiced a “Plan B”, you will most probably be nervous to ride it (because your brain is giving you “unknowns”).
This is very natural and it’s great.
And that is where this dismount gives your brain AND your body safety!

2. If something goes wrong, like you get knocked off your line - or you ride into a section of trail you know - but suddenly there is a huge rock missing - or you follow someone and suddenly, in the steep, come to a non-rollable step and you are too slow to drop it.
What do you do?!
You either dismount to the front and probably hurt yourself OR you have this method to save you.

It is seriously the MAIN reason why I see people crashing. Both instructors, advanced people and of course beginners. They ride into a medium steep section and really think they can do it. And in the middle, their perspective changes or something unexpected happens - and boom, they want to dismount. Dismount to the front. Get entangled in the bike. And crash.

With this technique: it is avoidable. 🙂

It’s an important one to know, to avoid and to PRACTICE, in order to be able to perform it in an emergency situation. And in order to be safe riding into any section without worrying about “will I be able to ride it?!” Because you have a “plan B” if you decide not to half/way!

Practice emergency bails, safe dismounting techniques!!!
In this video you will get a step-by-step tutorial on how to bail and what you want to avoid.
