Bringing Social Studies Back | Nicholas D'Amuro | TEDxSUNYGeneseoSalon |
|
"Bringing Social Studies Back" presents the current state of social studies education in the United States with a focus on New York. Currently, social studies is a content area that is fading away at the elementary grade levels, and losing momentum at the secondary level. Social studies is a content area that has the tools to teach students empathy, critical thinking, and the ability to understand the human experience and how it relates to where we are as a society.
Nick D'Amuro has taught 8th grade social studies and high school electives at Holley Central School District for the last four years. Nick earned his B.A. from SUNY Geneseo in history, adolescent education, and a minor in political science. He then earned his M.A. in social studies education from SUNY Brockport. Nick is also an assistant coach of track & field at SUNY Geneseo, along with varsity football and track at Holley CSD. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx |
