SP2021: the troubles with meritocracy

How can we ensure that meritocracy achieves a good outcome for everyone in the society?

0:09 : Gerald Giam talked about how he believes that meritocracy leads to suboptimal outcomes if every citizen is seen through the lens of their abilities and achievements.

1:30 : Hazel Poa pointed out that the less advantaged sees education as a great social leveller. We need to ensure that meritocracy works in our education system.

2:30 : Dr Janil Puthucheary said it's not about absolute meritocracy. There should be other ways to soften the edges of meritocracy and provide other pathways for success.
