For years, in the course of my teaching or commenting on philosophical thinkers, texts, and topics, I've gone off into asides, digressions, and even rants. Sometimes I signal those by saying that's what I'm going to do. Quite a few of those might be useful information, advice, or cautions to people studying the subject, so I'm pulling those portions out from my videos and publishing them as part of a series.

This one has to do with people who think that they are "studying Hegel" when they're really playing with what Hegel would call "empty words" and we can call "empty signifiers". Each section of the Phenomenology of Spirit requires study, if one is going to claim to have studied or understood Hegel - not just the portions that people like to chatter about (e.g. the Master-Slave dialectic).
