Mental Health: Struggle is a Story | Joy Hamati | TEDxKingsCollegeLondon

video thumbnail
In this story Anxiety, Depression and OCD are the main characters of different socioeconomic statuses and reason is the currency. Joy Hamati is a BSc Psychology student at King’s College London. She has always had a passion in voicing important issues. In her previous talks she discussed racism, sexism and ageism, and now through her first TEDx talk has brought the discussion of Mental Health Stigma to the table. Joy utilized her accreditation in Psychological First Aid from John Hopkins University and her experiences in mental health treatments to convey this important message. Having experienced stigma towards therapy in middle eastern countries during her training, she wanted to deliver a socioeconomic story portraying the reality of mental health illnesses. Her goal was to reach out to those experiencing mental health problems and to involve the community in understanding their journey. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
