What is Zero Waste clothing? | Shalize Nicholas | TEDxStroud

video thumbnail
It was a wedding dress that changed Shalize's life. Passionate about fashion, after starting work in a fashion retailer, Shalize realised just how wasteful the garment industry was. She's now on a mission to change the way we all view fashion and make fast fashion obsolete. Shalize is the designer & director of Madia & Matilda, a luxury sustainable and ethical lifestyle brand dedicated to designing effortlessly minimal and elegant clothing with retro referencing.

She has an honours degree in Fashion Design & Technology from Manchester Metropolitan University with a placement year at Littlewoods & Very as an Assistant Ladieswear Designer. In 2013 she launched Madia & Matilda and began her journey pioneering Sustainable and Ethical clothing.

Since launching in 2013 Madia & Matilda has been applauded and awarded accreditation, winning awards for sustainable initiative. Shalize has built the brand from a 15 piece up-cycled collection to a 60 piece, ready to wear collection. The biggest achievement to date was a showcase at Saint Martin’s in Fields and the opening of her first store in the Cotswolds. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
