A weather system and an area of low pressure is gradually edging eastwards across the country today...

Today:

Wednesday begins with showery outbreaks of rain across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, Wales and south west England. The Midlands, eastern and southeastern England are mostly dry but cloudy.

Through the rest of the day showery outbreaks of rain will gradually push eastwards with many places having a cloudy, damp day though the rain might not arrive into East Anglia and south east England until after dark while brighter skies and showers return to western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperatures will be cold under the wet weather at only 6C to 9C but should reach 13C outside the wet weather.

Tonight:

Showery outbreaks of rain continues to spread eastwards across England and Wales with the wet weather becoming confined to the east and south east of England by the end of the night. Clearer skies will follow to the north and west with showers around western and Irish sea coasts. Temperatures will be mild at 5C to 10C.

Tomorrow

A wet start in the east but most of the rain will clear away to leave us all with a mix of sunny spells and April showers. Some of the showers could be heavy with a risk of hail and some rumbles of thunder though some places will stay dry all day with bright or sunny spells. Milder with temperatures of 7C to 14C.

Outlook: .

Friday: Mainly dry with sunny spells and cloud. Milder.

Saturday: Mainly dry with the best sunshine in the west. Mild.

Sunday: Mostly dry and quite warm with sunny spells.
