Older runners, fatigue, injury & pain when running, keep going or quit |
|
My biggest challenge as an older runner and a newer runner is getting to know my body and understanding when a pain signal is real and needs attention, when I'm just dealing with the normal effects of running over 60 years old, and when I'm just being a baby. I had a conversation recently with a good friend of mine, Steve Saxton, who had a really useful framework for thinking about pain signals. Steve recently worked through some serious cramps during a marathon that he still completed well within Boston qualifying so he seems to have a good feel for "when to hold em and when to fold em". I got a lot from the chat and I hope you do too.
