Parasitic worms were discovered in canned sardines imported from Singapore and seized at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar checkpoint on March 27.
Consuming food infected with these parasites can result in severe stomach pains, nausea, and vomiting. The Johor Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) confiscated 16,320 kg of the sardines valued at about RM84,000 after the lorry driver transporting the goods failed to produce import permits.
