Incoming Singapore PM may use Johor as launch pad for more investments, says analyst |

Singapore's incoming Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is likely to use Johor even more to support its investments in Malaysia, analysts say.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, 72, will step down on May 15 after two decades in office, handing the reins over to Wong, 51. One economist says Wong is likely to continue Lee's economic policies, particularly focusing on growth through trade and investment. He is expected to put Johor to greater use to support Singapore investments, particularly in housing and land development. Another economist however expects Wong to adopt a stricter approach and prioritise policies that benefit Singapore over its neighbours, with a possible general election happening as early as end of this year. Singapore and Malaysia were each other's second-largest trading partners in 2022, with bilateral trade reaching U$83.53 billion. https://www.nst.com.my/business/economy/2024/04/1038894/incoming-singapore-pm-may-use-johor-launch-pad-more-investments ---------------------------------- #NST #NSTTV visit us at www.nst.com.my our Facebook www.facebook.com/nstonline more news at www.twitter.com/NST_Online and also www.instagram.com/nstonline |
