It’s not like the original A.C.T. needed a makeover—people love it as is. Still, it got a few subtle, yet meaningful upgrades. At 23 lbs., this flywheel is three pounds heavier than the standard model. Those few extra pounds make the inertia factor a twinge more forceful. Once I started hustling, the flywheel really furnished a steady, constant drive, and I moved with ballerina-like grace. The leaner frame is a plus—they shaved about 3.5 inches off the width, making it even more compact. I still felt that snug, protected feeling from having the welded steel handrails around me. And the piece is absolutely unshakable. I did my darndest to rattle its cage, using erratic strides and riffs forward and backward at manic speeds. Wobbling wasn’t possible (I am 230 pounds under the max weight of 350, however). Courtesy of silent magnetic resistance, it operated on mute mostly; my more vicious go-rounds drew slight knocking murmurs. I don’t suspect you’ll ride as crazy-town as I did. But if you do get demanding, it’d still be one of the most forgiving elliptical machines on the floor.
