Finally a Mk 8 Golf we LOVE! (Volkswagen Golf R 2022 review) |
|
Drift mode, a new AWD system and 10 percent more power - the 2022 Golf R in Mk 8 form is a more serious performance hatch than the vehicle it replaces. More capable of taking on rivals like the Mercedes A35 and Audi S3 - even punching up into RS3 and A45 territory thanks to its sophisticated twin-clutch rear differential for a better AWD system - the Mk 8 Golf R is more of a weapon than the Mk 7.5 that it supercedes.
In today’s episode of Chasing Cars, deputy editor Nathan Ponchard conducts a full and independent first review of the new Golf R hatchback on road and track. Coming soon: our Chasing Cars unbiased reviews of the Tiguan R SUV and the new Golf R wagon. The Golf R sits above the GTI in the Mk 8 Golf hatch lineup and also competes against the Hyundai i30 N and Renault Megane RS.
