In search of deeper learning: The quest to remake the American high school | LIVE STREAM |

Education reformers are quick to articulate the ambitious goal of engaging students in “deeper learning” and endorse particular strategies to actualize this goal. Yet, when Harvard Professor Jal Mehta and educator Sarah Fine spent hundreds of hours in schools explicitly designed to cultivate deeper learning, they discovered that it is exceedingly uncommon. In their book “In Search of Deeper Learning: The Quest to Remake the American High School” (Harvard University Press, 2019), Dr. Mehta and Ms. Fine detail the findings of their search, describe what makes for the rare success story, and consider whether deeper learning is scalable.
Join AEI as Dr. Mehta and a panel of experts discuss what deeper learning actually looks like and consider the prospect of changing student learning in classrooms around the country.
