Arbitration is an agreement between two parties to try and resolve any disputes between them using an arbitrator, rather than submitting the claims to the court system. In the context of the securities industry, most customers, when the open up a new brokerage account, agree to submit any disputes to FINRA arbitration, which is the governmental agency that oversees the brokerage industry.
