A deep area of low pressure to the north west of Scotland is bringing gale force winds to the north west of the country...

Today:

Wednesday begins on a windy note across the country with gale force winds across northern and western Scotland. Central, northern and western regions have got showers while the south east has persistent rain left over from last night.

Through the rest of the day wet weather clears away from the southeastern corner quickly this morning with sunshine and showers following. Most of the showers will be in central, northern and western regions where they could be heavy with and hail and thunder. It will be a windy day but gales should ease as the day wears on in the north and west. Gusts widely between 30MPH and 50MPH though. Temperatures will be very mild at 7C to 15C.

Tonight:

A band of heavy, squally rain pushes across the country this evening followed by clear spells and showers from the west. Temperatures becoming cooler as the squally rain pushes through although still mild in the south east. 3C to 9C.

Tomorrow

Sunshine and showers across the country with brisk westerly winds. The showers could be heavy with hail and thunder in northern and western regions. Watch out for a longer spell of rain and squally winds into the south and south east through the evening. A cooler day with average temperatures of 6C to 13C.

Outlook:

Friday: Sunshine and showers with longer spells of rain possible.

Saturday: More showers or longer spells of rain.

Sunday: A band of showers pushing southwards. Turning colder.
