Gov. Phil Murphy takes a bold and controversial step to curb rising COVID-19 cases, announcing Friday that he is mandating all students, educators, staff and visitors in all New Jersey schools must wear masks for the start of the new, in-person school year with limited exceptions.
Friday, officials announced 1,249 new, positive cases and 7 new deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 913,845 cases in the state and 26,636 confirmed and probable deaths.
