Good morning everyone and welcome to today's UK weather forecast on Wednesday 1st December 2021 - It's the first day of December and the first day of meteorological winter 2021/22

Current Situation: Low pressure is clearing into the north sea pulling in a colder, showery northwesterly wind in it's wake...

Today:

Wednesday begins with showers across many parts of the country but there are also direr and brighter spells too. The showers have turned wintry over Scottish mountains. Winds are strong and blustery with gusts reaching 50mph around western coasts. It's quite a mild start in the south but colder in the north.

Through the rest of the day we'l; see more showers pushing southwards with some wintry showers over Scottish hills and mountains. Generally the northern half of the country will turn drier but the south will have plenty of showers. Temperatures will be colder at 4C to 9C.

Tonight:

Showers will fall as snow to low levels across northern and central Scotland with wintry showers peppering the coasts. Elsewhere most places become dry with long clear spells leading to a widespread frost. Temperatures range from -6C in the north to 2C in the far south west.

Tomorrow:

A ridge if high pressure will bring us a mostly dry day with plenty of sunny spells and just a few scattered wintry showers around coasts. A cold day with temperatures of 2C to 6C.

Outlook: .

Friday: Outbreaks of rain and hill snow pushing eastwards on Thursday night followed by sunshine and showers. Milder in the south but remaining cold in the north.

Saturday: Another band of rain pushes eastwards on Friday night leading to a cold and showery day on Saturday.

Sunday: Turning drier but wintry showers in the north.
