FINRA is intended to be a faster, more expeditious process than pursuing a claim in court. Generally speaking arbitration has more limited discovery mechanisms than would be available in court. However, hearing dates are much faster than in a typical court case and much less expensive process. Ultimately FINRA arbitration benefits customers in many ways, including the fact that there are very limited basis for a brokerage firm to appeal an award and FINRA requires that the brokerage firm pay any award within 30 days of the award being rendered. |
